Clive “Mono” Mukundu grew up in Harare high density suburbs of Kambuzuma, Kuwadzana and Mufakose. During his high school days, he had a single dreadlock (Mono-lock) hairstyle that earned him the nickname Mono from his peers.
His first interest in music was noticeable at a very tender age, however this was against his father’s wishes so each time he was seen holding any musical instrument he received corporal punishment. Mukunduwas resilient to the opposition that at age 9 he made himself a homemade tin guitar which he played in private. It was at this age he began composing music.
Mukundu is a Zimbabwean award-winning guitarist and music producer. He is one of the most recorded artists in the country, having featured in over 700 local and international albums. He has played the guitar for almost all the music legends in Zimbabwe including Oliver Mtukudzi, Thomas Mapfumo and Andy Brown among others. Mukundu has produced for many artists including Richard of the Zviri Kumbofamaba Sei fame and Kambo Music.
Mukundu is participating in the Jit project in Detroit, 2018.
